INFSCI 1730 INDEPENDENT STUDY (replacing INFSCI 1080, effective Fall 2020)

An independent study is a student-initiated experience undertaken with faculty supervision. The experience is designed to permit students to pursue an area of interest in Information Science, focusing on more in-depth study of theory and concepts or system/application design and implementation. As part of this independent study course, students will either develop a paper based on scholarly readings, or a practical implementation of a system or product. The course will promote understanding of and experience with, academic research including search and retrieval skills, writing skills, and the ability to synthesize and develop a conclusion on a subject topic that is related to the information science degree. With the development of a system, students will gain a deeper understanding of the product cycle, from idea and conceptualization to implementation.
Requirements: Instructor consent.
